Sunday 15 September: walking
We set off to do a 10k hike recommended by the camp owners. It starts in the rustic local village near the Church and then we head out through olive groves and dusty landscapes. There are lots of dry oak trees. In true Clarey style we get lost early on and have to turn around on a sun exposed hot road and retrace our steps. We see Piedra de Hercules and an arid landscape reminiscent of Australia without the Emus. It’s quite a slog in the heat but there are some impressive views, giant Eucalyptus trees and sweet smelling pine trees too. Back in the village we have much needed cold drink at a local bar before cooling off in the pool again. It’s still very warm writing this and it’s nearly 8pm!
